The City of Fredericton has released its COVID-19 vaccination and testing policy for municipal employees. The new guidelines and policy were approved at a special noontime meeting of Fredericton City Council earlier today.
City employees will be required to either show proof of their double vaccination status or provide a negative COVID-19 test result on a twice weekly basis. Non-vaccinated employees will also be required to mask while at work. Fully vaccinated employees are exempt from this requirement. The new safety protocols will go into effect September 2nd with full implementation no later than September 17th.
Additionally, contractors and other outside workers entering City buildings will be required to either mask or show their proof of vaccination. Vaccination will also be a condition of employment for new hires.
“Safety always has to be the number one priority for our staff,” said Mayor Kate Rogers.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the City’s actions and decisions have been guided by information provided by New Brunswick’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) with the goal of reducing the risk of transmission in the workplace and therefore maintaining a safe work environment for all employees. City staff will continue to closely monitor evolving public health information and the COVID-19 situation to protect the health and safety of employees.
