Charges Laid in King Street Theft and Assault Incident

On Jan. 11, 2025, the Fredericton Police Force responded to a call for service on King Street regarding a complaint of theft and assault. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an individual had stolen from a store, assaulted an employee when approached and fled the scene. The victim sustained minor injuries.

A police investigation was conducted, and after reviewing video footage, officers identified the suspect as 36-year-old Kirk Peterson, of the Fredericton area. 

Peterson was arrested on Jan. 20 and was charged in court on Jan. 21 with the following: 
•    Assault, Sec 266(b) CCC
•    Theft under $5000, Sec 334(b)(ii) CCC
•    Failure to Comply with Probation Order, Sec 733.1(1)(b) CCC

He was also charged with the following, on four unrelated files:
•    Theft under $5000, Sec 334(b)(ii) CC: 3 charges
•    Assault, Sec 266(b) CC: 1 charge
•    Fail to Comply with Probation Order, Sec 733.1(1)(b) CC: 3 charges
•    Mischief, Sec 430(4)(b) CC: 1 charge

Peterson was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
